1. Menu 6-1-8-1 (Modem Type):
Possibly "no modem" is selected: "Tone Dial" must usually be selected!
NOTE: Frequently after an onsite configuration using LDSWin (this was then made using a direct serial coupling), it has been forgotten to select "tone dialling" again on the store computer -> thus, no connection establishment is possible.
2. Menu 8-8 (Modem State)
Second line: modem status
- DIRECT: no modem configured
- (DIRECT): null modem cable
- ILL: no connection to the modem or modem not switched on
- IDLE: OK condition, modem is ready

3. Do the five LEDs (Power, DTR, DSR, RTS and CTS) of the modem (Microlink 56k i) light?
Otherwise the cables must be checked and replaced if necessary, see connection
diagramm.
